Spatial Governance

Spatial Governance (SG) or land administration is an umbrella term for a cohesive set of paradigms, practices and technologies that rely upon efficient use of Spatial Data in everyday governance activities. The term Spatial Data is broader than Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which bears too much legacy today and is technology-centric in itself. The most widely known SG tool is Land Cadastre – a governmental institution for keeping track of the exact geographic location, borders, and other physical qualities of immovable properties. However, today’s situation is much richer and it is now difficult to find a governance sector that does not need SG support.

Practice has demonstrated that proper use of SG results in an improvement in governance capability, in inter-agency cooperation and in G2C communications. Additionally, SG can offer very effective tools for controlling corruption.

Due to recent changes in technology and its many new uses, developing SG infrastructure and gaining results can be done faster and more cost efficiently than ever before.
