EU-supported project enhances Georgian digital skills trainers with insights from Estonia’s best practices
From February 17th to 20th, 2025, as part of the EU-funded “Rural Empowerment through Digital Inclusion” (REDI) project, eleven digital skills trainers from Georgia participated in a study visit to Estonia.
The visit provided hands-on exposure to Estonia’s advanced digital education ecosystem, equipping trainers with innovative methods to enhance digital literacy and online safety in their communities.
“By leveraging Estonia’s best practices, the trainers will be better equipped to implement effective digital education strategies in their communities, fostering digital literacy and online safety awareness in rural Georgia,” said Margus Sarapuu, REDI project lead.
The program featured expert-led training sessions, site visits, and discussions on best practices in digital education. Trainers explored Estonia’s digital learning environment by visiting educational institutions, research centres, and technology hubs, gaining insights into modern teaching methodologies and digital skills development.
During the visit, participants toured the Tartu Delta Centre, where they attended a presentation on school robotics, and engaged in discussions on teaching cybersecurity and informatics. They explored the latest technological advancements in education. At Tartu Kivilinna School and Põltsamaa Gymnasium, trainers observed how educational technologies are integrated into teaching practices.

Estonian police captain Maarja Punak introduced participants to Estonia’s approach to online safety, highlighting the role of web constables in protecting citizens in the digital space. At Tallinn Central Library, trainers learned about libraries’ role as community hubs supporting digital literacy and online security education.
The study visit continued to bolster the EU’s commitment to promoting digital inclusion and skills development in diverse regions of Georgia, such as Imereti, Guria, Racha-Lechkhumi, Kvemo Svaneti, and Kakheti, within the framework of the REDI project.
