The 6th e-Governance Conference focuses on practical aspects of digital transformation

10.02.2020

The 6th e-Governance Conference ‘Giant Leaps Start With Small Steps’, to be held on 20-21 May 2020 in Tallinn, Estonia focuses on the practical aspects of how governments can achieve their long term goals of digital transformation with actionable small steps and continuous innovation.

According to Hannes Astok, the Deputy Director of the e-Governance Academy governments have an important role in conducting the process of the inclusive digital transformation for the whole society. “Taking a giant leap in innovation, especially when technology is involved, requires good leadership and usually means breaking the vision into actionable small steps. This year’s keynote presentations, parallel sessions and panel discussions will focus on the practical aspects of strategically designing digital agendas and collaborative models for e-governance,” said Hannes Astok.

The Conference topics are:

  1. Converting a vision of digital transformation into actionable small steps: what are the essential steps and how to get started?
  2. What is the government’s role in leading digital innovation in the society and digital inclusion?
  3. How to make the digital component an essential part of a country’s development (Digital for Development) and how to finance it?
  4. Adopting the big changes of the past decades: How is the transition to the Cloud based Platform Services Architecture affecting the Government?

The conference speakers include Minister of the Foreign Trade and Information Technology of Estonia Mr. Kaimar Karu, Author of the bestseller “Non-Bullshit Innovation” David Rowan, the Scholar Avi Jorisch from Washington Institute and other top visionaries and practitioners of digital transformation from Estonia and around the world.

The 6th e-Governance Conference will host more than 400 participants from various countries. “We invite governments, local authorities and businesses to share their lessons learnt on digital transformation and take a closer look at other countries experiences to set brave goals and plan the next steps in their country. Collaboration between countries, regions and sectors is a key to benefit from innovations,” said Hannes Astok.

This year’s conference celebrates the 50th anniversary of the first walk on the moon by humans, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. Linnar Viik, the programme director of the e-Governance Conference sees many paralels between preparation for moonwalk and digital transformation in the government. “As we know, this giant leap for humankind started with small steps: research, meetings, programming, technology development, etc. The same principle applies to digital transformation and e-governance development. Achieving long term goals with continuous innovation that utilises smaller projects based on common principles will be one of the key learning and sharing objectives of the e-Governance Conference 2020,” said Linnar Viik.

The e-Governance Conference is an annual event organised by e-Governance Academy (eGA) since 2015 in cooperation with the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tallinn City.

The e-Governance Academy (eGA) is a think-tank and consultancy organisation founded for the creation and transfer of knowledge and best practice concerning digital transformation in the government.
