The Tallinn Summer School of Cyber Diplomacy brought together participants from 43 countries

The 4th Tallinn Summer School of Cyber Diplomacy started on Monday, June 12th. Week long event hosts 53 cyber diplomats from 43 countries!

Cyber diplomats gathered together to learn from 40 fascinating speakers and and discuss about how to uphold a free, open, safe and secure cyberspace.

„Cyber diplomacy means stability in cyberspace. Working together with our partners helps us to create a better cyberspace for all of us. We need to train cyber diplomats everywhere, from all corners of the world,“ said Tanel Sepp, the Ambassador-at-Large for Cyber Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia.

„Cybersecurity is not only about data and cybercrime, it’s about vital infrastructure and how we work and live as a society,“ expressed Miguel Angel Exposito Verdejo, Acting Head of Unit for Science, Technology, Innovation and Digitalisation, DG INTPA, in his opening remarks.

The main topics of this year´s Summer School are:

  • Digitalisation and cybersecurity
  • International cybersecurity and responsible state behaviour
  • Enforcing cybersecurity frameworks
  • Cyber capacity building and improving cyber resilience
  • Table-top cybersecurity exercise

Hannes Astok, CEO of the e-Governance Academy, wished that during the Summer School, the participants would share their knowledge and learn from each other. „Digital governance isn’t about translating the existing bureaucracy into digital bureaucracy, it’s about simplifying the processes and change management. In Estonia, we believe that sharing makes the world a better place. And that’s what we are here to do,“ said Astok.

The event is organized under Tallinn Summer School of Cyber Diplomacy project and taking place from 12-16 June 2023. Summer School is funded and co-organized by the EU Directorate-General for International Partnerships (INTPA), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the e-Governance Academy (eGA) and the Estonian Center for International Development (ESTDEV).
