Two years of e-Entrepreneur: how a digital service has simplified starting a business in Ukraine
Two years ago, within the EU-funded DT4UA project, the e-Governance Academy experts helped the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine to develop and launch the comprehensive e-Entrepreneur service on the Diia portal. Now, this service brings together 16 services, helping to significantly simplify the process of setting up and developing one’s own business.
During this time, over 7,750 entrepreneurs have been able to start a business without visiting government offices, submitting paper applications, or going through lengthy bureaucratic procedures. Among the most popular services are:
- Automatic registration of a private entrepreneur
- Opening a bank account
- Registration of a market operator’s capacity
Prior to the launch of e-Entrepreneur, setting up certain types of businesses could take up to 53 days and required interaction with seven different government authorities and institutions. Entrepreneurs had to submit documents to various departments, obtain permits and declarations, spending time and resources on the process itself. Today, the services required to start a business can be accessed via a single application on the Diia portal thanks to e-Entrepreneur.
For the e-Governance Academy, supporting the launch of e-Entrepreneur is one example of how digital solutions can directly influence a country’s economic development. Simplifying interaction between business and state helps entrepreneurs launch their own businesses and create new jobs more easily and quickly.
