Uganda launches renewal of its government enterprise architecture and e-government interoperability framework

With the support of the World Bank, NITA-U has launched the renewal of Uganda’s Government Enterprise Architecture and Government Interoperability Framework in close collaboration with eGA. The objective is clear: to ensure a modern, interoperable, and strategically aligned digital government ecosystem.

Government Enterprise Architecture is a blueprint of the government digital structure that guides how technology systems, data and processes are organised across ministries, departments, agencies, and local government.

“The blueprint ensures government systems are designed to collaborate together and not grow in isolation,” highlighted Brenda Maniraguha Project Manager for the Government Enterprise Architecture/Government Interoperability Framework.

The workshop was convened at a critical time when interoperable frameworks are central to efficient public service delivery.

As part of this process, eGA experts led a multi-agency workshop in Kampala this week, facilitating discussions on the current state of Uganda’s digital landscape, identifying priority challenges, and jointly shaping a shared vision for the country’s digital future.

Building on the insights gathered, we will continue our collaboration to lay the groundwork for a modern, interoperable, and future-ready digital ecosystem in Uganda, designed to deliver better public services for its people.

Five years ago, eGA has collaborated with the National Information Technology Authority-Uganda (NITA-U) to develop the country’s Government Enterprise Architecture (GEA) and E-Government Interoperability Framework (e-GIF). As these frameworks approach their five-year milestone, an update has become essential. Technology has evolved rapidly, government priorities have shifted, and expectations for seamless, citizen-centred digital services continue to grow. To remain relevant and effective, the frameworks must evolve accordingly.
