Ukraine took part in international digital identity wallet testing at the Moldova Digital Summit 2026

Oleg Burba, an expert from the e-Governance Academy, together with his colleagues from the State Enterprise Diia, Illia Rodin and Roman Pavlovych, took part in the Moldova Digital Summit 2026 – an event focusing on digital transformation and digital European integration.

During the summit, the Ukrainian team took part in an international session to test the interoperability of digital wallets, which brought together six organisations from various countries (Ukraine, Romania, Moldova, the Netherlands, France and Croatia). During the testing, the compatibility of the solutions required for the future operation of the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet) was assessed.

The e-Governance Academy, as part of the European Union’s DT4UA project, systematically supports the development of Diia Wallet and the implementation of European approaches in the field of digital identification. Such international testing provides an opportunity to verify the readiness of Ukrainian solutions to interact with the European digital ecosystem in practice.

The testing marked another practical step towards implementing the eIDAS 2.0 requirements and developing the Diia Wallet in line with European standards. Such international initiatives help ensure the interoperability of digital solutions across different countries and prepare the infrastructure for the cross-border use of digital identity.

“For Ukraine, participating in such tests is an opportunity to put our own solutions to the test in practice and work on an equal footing with European Union countries. Today, we are effectively the only non-EU country already actively involved in shaping the future digital identity ecosystem and testing solutions for the EUDI Wallet. This confirms that Ukraine is moving in the same direction as its European partners and is ready for further digital integration,” noted Oleg Burba.

During the testing, the technical compatibility of the Ukrainian digital identity wallet was verified with the common infrastructure of European wallets, as well as with national solutions in EU countries and Moldova.

In addition, the Ukrainian team demonstrated how the Diia Wallet operates in accordance with European digital identity standards. In particular, participants demonstrated how users can receive, store and present digital documents via the electronic wallet, as well as verify their identity without an internet connection. 

Participation in the Moldova Digital Summit 2026 marked another step towards Ukraine’s integration into the European Union’s single digital space and the development of cooperation with European partners in the field of electronic identification.
