Podcast 🎧: Four years that laid the groundwork for the Ukrainian digital transformation

For more than four years, the e-Governance Academy’s team has assisted digital transformation in Ukraine by creating the conditions for digital services’ provision.

In this episode, our Ukrainian Team Leader, Mari Pedak and Executive Director Hannes Astok cast light on the technical developments within the EGOV4Ukraine project, the organisational developments in the Ukrainian government, and the changes in Ukraine’s officials’ and citizens’ attitude towards digital solutions and services during the last years. According to Mari Pedak, this change can be summarised as: within four years the question “Why do we need the Trembita data exchange platform and the Vulyk information system?” has changed into “When will they be ready?”.

To date, more than 180 interactions have been established between electronic registers and information systems of government authorities through the Trembita system within EGOV4Ukraine project. These interactions serve as the basis for e-services development.

Since the work that the EGOV4Ukraine project team has done is not as easy as a walk in the park, Mari also discusses the invisible work behind the scenes that the team had to do. Thanks to all this hard work, Ukraine is already gathering its first fruits of digital transformation and is well prepared for a leap towards a digital society.

The Trembita system was developed and implemented in 2016 – 2021 within the EGOV4UKRAINE project of the “U-LEAD with Europe” programme by e-Governance Academy and IT companies Cybernetica AS (Estonia) and SoftExpansion (Ukraine). The activities cost 9.4 million euros and were financed by the European Union and its Member States – Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Poland, Estonia and Slovenia.
