Moldova Cybersecurity Rapid Assistance
Launched in May 2022, the EU-backed Moldovan Cybersecurity Rapid Assistance Project has significantly improved Moldova’s cyber landscape. This project increased the cyber resilience of public sector organisations and critical infrastructure sectors. With guidance from eGA experts, national authorities aligned their operations with the EU NIS Directive. In 2023, Moldova adopted the Cybersecurity Act, which was developed with eGA’s expert advice, enhancing digital safety to meet European Union standards and leading to the establishment of a dedicated cybersecurity agency. This new agency now enhances the security and operations of critical network and information systems across the country.
Throughout the project, eGA also played a key role in providing the necessary cybersecurity equipment to national authorities and organized over 115 capacity-building events that engaged more than 3,000 participants, half of whom were women. Key initiatives included the regional Cybersecurity Symposium in November 2023, a boot camp for youths, and the Women in Cyber Forum, which focuses on increasing the involvement of women in cybersecurity.
Additionally, the project launched a comprehensive cybersecurity awareness campaign that culminated in the creation of Siguranța Digitală, a website dedicated to sharing digital knowledge. This campaign has made significant strides in raising cybersecurity awareness throughout Moldova.
- Defined the responsibilities within a governance model for cybersecurity and established minimum cybersecurity baselines.
- Improved cyber incident management and monitoring mechanisms.
- Supported the development of the cybersecurity operations center and an information-sharing platform.
- Developed technical skills of cybersecurity experts within governmental agencies and critical service providers.
- Established communication channels and cooperation mechanisms between public and private agencies to ensure the operation and recovery of critical services and infrastructures.
These initiatives will strengthen the country’s defenses against digital threats and create a safer digital landscape.
