The European Union introduced the Rapid Assistance Project in Moldova in 2022 to increase the cyber resilience of public sector organisations and key critical infrastructure sectors. In the initial phase, the project aim was to align national competent authorities with the EU NIS Directive. Over two years, the project significantly enhanced the country’s cyber resilience, focusing primarily on protecting critical infrastructure.

Building on the successes of Cybersecurity Rapid Assistance 1.0, the new project aims to strengthen Moldova’s cybersecurity infrastructure further.

The primary objectives of this next phase are to:

  • increase the cyber resilience of Moldovan beneficiaries;
  • improve cybersecurity capacities;
  • protect critical information systems;
  • support the implementation of cybersecurity-related normative frameworks and enhance the legislative framework in line with the EU acquis

Throughout the project, eGA’s experts will provide policy consultations, organise tailored trainings, supply necessary equipment and tools, and implement cybersecurity drills and exercises.
Additionally, eGA will support participation in international networks, forums, conferences, and capacity-building events, as well as address online privacy and personal data protection issues through various awareness-raising activities.

As eGA continues its work in Moldova, the focus is on enhancing the country’s cybersecurity infrastructure and resilience through comprehensive policy support, capacity-building initiatives, and international cooperation.

  • 17.-18.10 2024 ASC Worskshop II
    As part of the EU-funded Moldova Cybersecurity Rapid Assistance project, eGA hosted a specialised workshop by leading cybersecurity professionals Andri Rebane and Klaid Mägi. This session looks into enhancing ASC Operational Readiness: Incident Management Plans and ISMS policy implementation.

  • 8.10 2024 Celebrating Cybersecurity Awareness Month in GLIA Impact Hub
    Maarja Punak, from Estonian Police and Border Guard Board, shared her insights on protecting citizens online and raising awareness about online threats, based on her extensive experience as a web constable. In addition, eGA experts provided an overview of project results and upcoming steps. 
  • 27.-29.09 2024 Deeptech Gigahack
    We are delighted to contribute to the DeepTech GigaHack in Moldova through the EU Moldova Cybersecurity Rapid Assistance 2.0 project. Our focus is on delivering expertise and strategic insights from Estonia’s leading hackathon, startup, and digitalization communities. With eGA’s support, GigaHack has successfully appointed a distinguished moderator and other experts. This collaboration underscores our ongoing commitment to fostering cybersecurity and digital transformation initiatives in Moldova.
  • 13.09 2024 Workshop “Developing Information Security Requirements to Implement the Law on Cybersecurity”
    Organised under the EU “Moldova Cybersecurity Rapid Assistance” project and facilitated by the e-Governance Academy, this event targeted high-level public officials in Moldova. The workshop aimed to convene experts from state institutions to develop cybersecurity standards in line with Law No. 48/2023. Practical presentations highlighted international best practices, supporting developing a national model suited to Moldova’s needs. The session featured expert speakers, including Mr. Vitalie Varaniță, who discussed the current cybersecurity landscape under the new law. Mr. Toomas Vaks explored a risk-based approach to implementing security measures, while Ms. Epp Maaten offered insights on establishing security requirements and supervision, utilising international models to shape Moldova’s cybersecurity strategy.
  • 11.09 2024 1st Project Coordination Group (PCG) Meeting
    The first meeting of the Project Coordination Group for the “Moldova Cybersecurity Rapid Assistance 2.0” project, led by Ms. Ene Višnev, provided a comprehensive update on the project’s progress and outlined future steps. Discussions centred on legislative updates related to cybersecurity, focusing on the development of security standards and the identification of service providers. The session also highlighted initiatives to enhance online safety and awareness alongside advancements in e-service security and national incident management capabilities. These efforts aim to advance Moldova’s cyber resilience in compliance with EU best practices.
  • 06.-09.06 2024 Moldova Digital Summit 2024
    During the Moldova Digital Summit 2024, eGA was proud to contribute to discussions on the future of digital governance and cybersecurity. Our newest senior expert, Carry Kangur, participated in the panel “Beyond Boundaries: Cross-Sector Collaboration in Incident Response,” where he explored the critical role of government policies, international cooperation, and real-world examples in strengthening incident response across borders. This engagement reflects eGA’s ongoing commitment to Moldova’s digital transformation, supported by the EU-funded Cybersecurity Rapid Assistance project and the launch of Project 2.0.
  • 20.-22.08 2024 ASC Workshop
    As part of the EU-funded Moldova Cybersecurity Rapid Assistance project, eGA hosted a specialised workshop by leading cybersecurity professionals Andri Rebane and Klaid Mägi. The sessions explored critical topics such as IOC, incident management, and vulnerability scanning. Participants gained practical insights to enhance Moldova’s cybersecurity readiness through interactive sessions and real-life scenarios.
